Welcome to Destyn. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you use our dating application.

By using Destyn, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Account Information:

  • Apple ID (for authentication via Sign in with Apple)
  • Name and age
  • Email address (provided by Apple, optional)
  • Gender and gender preference
  • Date of birth

Profile Information:

  • Profile photos (up to 6)
  • Bio and self-description
  • Location (city, state/province)
  • Height, education, and profession
  • Lifestyle preferences (diet, drinking, smoking, family values)
  • Languages spoken
  • Religion and relationship status
  • Interests and hobbies

Preference Information:

  • Age range preference
  • Maximum distance preference
  • Gender preference for matching

Usage Information:

  • Swipe history (likes, passes, super likes)
  • Matches and conversations
  • Messages (end-to-end encrypted - we cannot read them)
  • Photos shared in chats (end-to-end encrypted)
  • Typing indicators and read receipts

Automatically Collected Information

Device Information:

  • Device model and operating system version
  • Unique device identifiers
  • Push notification tokens
  • App version

Location Information:

  • Precise location (GPS coordinates) - only collected with your permission
  • Approximate location derived from IP address

Usage Analytics:

  • App usage patterns
  • Features accessed
  • Time spent in app
  • Error logs and crash reports

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

End-to-End Encryption

Destyn uses end-to-end encryption for all messages and shared photos. This means:

  • Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent
  • Only you and your match can decrypt and read messages
  • Destyn servers cannot read your message content
  • Your encryption keys are stored securely on your device (never on our servers)

We use industry-standard X25519 key exchange and XSalsa20 encryption algorithms.

Data Sharing

We DO NOT sell your personal information to third parties.

We may share your information with:

Service Providers:

  • Clerk - Authentication and user management
  • Convex - Backend database and real-time synchronization
  • Apple - Push notifications (APNs)
  • Cloud storage providers - For storing encrypted messages and photos

Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental request, or to protect the rights and safety of Destyn, our users, or others.

Business Transfers: If Destyn is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you via email and/or app notification before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Third-Party Services

Destyn uses the following third-party services:

Clerk (clerk.com):

  • Handles Sign in with Apple authentication
  • Stores basic account information (Apple ID, email)

These services have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.

Data Retention Policy:

  • Active accounts - Data is retained while your account is active so we can provide the service
  • Account deletion - Most personal data is deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Safety & legal - Reports and related safety records may be retained to comply with law and protect users
  • Inactive accounts - We do not currently auto-delete inactive accounts

Account Deletion: When you delete your account:

  • Your profile, preferences, swipe history, matches, and device tokens are deleted
  • Encrypted messages are deleted (note: matches may retain local copies)
  • Photos and encrypted chat images are deleted from storage on a best-effort basis and may take time to fully purge
  • Reports against your account may be retained for safety and legal compliance

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

Access and Portability:

  • Request a copy of your personal data in JSON format (profile, preferences, matches, swipes, and encrypted message content/metadata; media files are not bundled)
  • Use Settings → Privacy → Export My Data to generate a JSON export

Correction:

  • Update your profile information at any time in Settings

Deletion:

  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Available in Settings → Delete Account

Objection:

  • Object to processing of your data for certain purposes
  • Opt out of promotional communications

Withdraw Consent:

  • Revoke location permissions at any time in device settings
  • Disable push notifications

Children's Privacy

Destyn is NOT intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will delete their account immediately.

International Data Transfers

Destyn is available in the United States and Canada. Your information may be transferred to and stored on servers located in the United States. By using Destyn, you consent to the transfer of your information to the U.S.

We comply with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR (for EU users) and PIPEDA (for Canadian users).

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • End-to-end encryption for messages and shared photos
  • Encryption at rest for stored data
  • Secure HTTPS connections
  • Regular security audits
  • Access controls and authentication

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

Right to Know: You can request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.

Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information (with certain exceptions).

Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Consent - You provide consent when creating your account
  • Contractual Necessity - Processing is necessary to provide our services
  • Legitimate Interests - Improving our services, safety, and fraud prevention
